Graduate Application
Students interested in admission to the philosophy graduate program should:
Familiarize yourself with the basics:
In the sidebar you will notice a page detailing admissions requirements. There is also a page of frequently asked questions. And if you haven't reviewed them yet, also take a look at the pages under the Graduate Programs link. There you will find details about the path to the PhD itself, some of the professional-development resources our department and Baylor's Graduate School have to offer, and get a glimpse into the life of a Baylor Philosophy grad student.
Contact the Graduate Program Director:
If after viewing information on the website regarding the Ph.D. in Philosophy you have additional questions, contact Dr. Frank Beckwith, Associate Director of Graduate Studies, at Francis_Beckwith@baylor.edu and Dr. Alexander Pruss, Director of Graduate Studies, at Alexander_Pruss@baylor.edu. Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with current faculty interests prior to applying.
Apply to the program:
The preferred method is our online application, which contains several advantageous features such as a real-time error checker and internet payment options. This method also allows the graduate school to process the material faster, and provides a notification on receipt.
Application deadline for the program is January 2
It is strongly recommended that students apply early to ensure maximum possible consideration. For a detailed description of the necessary materials needed for your application, please refer to the admissions requirements.
Schedule A Visit:
The philosophy department welcomes visits from prospective students at any time. During visits students have the opportunity to sit in on graduate seminars, speak with faculty, and tour the campus. It is important that you contact Dr. Pruss and Dr. Beckwith prior to your visit to set up accommodations and meetings with professors.
(Note that those prospectives that make it to the acceptance short list will be offered a funded visit to campus in time to make an informed decision about which offers to accept.)
Decisions and offers:
The Department anticipates contacting the initial group of finalists in January. As a signatory school to the Council of Graduate Schools resolution "Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees and Assistants," applicants are asked to accept or decline extended offers no later than April 15. Full text of the Resolution can be viewed here.
