Lucas Merritt
- Graduate Student
Before coming to Baylor, I studied biology at the University of Texas at Dallas (B.S. ‘20) and Philosophy of Religion at Palm Beach Atlantic University (MA ‘23). My philosophical interests are diverse, but lie primarily in Metaphysics, Philosophy of Biology, and Philosophy of Mind. I’m interested in competing ontologies of nature and its parts, and am planning a dissertation focused on the prospects for a Neo-Aristotelian metaphysics of organisms. I also have more general interests in philosophy of science, religion,, and technology– as well as in the thought of the 19th century author George MacDonald. Outside of academic life, I enjoy being in nature, playing sports, watching historical films, and growing in my knowledge of other areas (such as theology, history, and spiritual formation.) My wife, Martha, and I live in Waco.
