Rich Eva
Graduate Student
I received my B.A. from Princeton University with honors in philosophy and earned a certificate in the Values and Public Life program. I wrote my thesis on Leibniz and the Problem of Evil. I’m currently writing my dissertation on the ethics of politicization: what is politicization and what should we think about it? I’m interested in all areas of applied ethics (medical ethics, business ethics, environmental ethics) and in social and political philosophy. More broadly, I’m interested normative ethics, metaethics, philosophy of law, history of philosophy, and philosophical pedagogy. My published work has involved Kierkegaard, Aquinas, Marx, Plato, philosophy of law, environmental ethics, business ethics, and pedagogy. In addition to politicization and polarization, I am currently researching private property rights, the virtue of wonder, the (proposed) virtue of competitiveness, and classroom techniques aimed at improving civil discourse and mental health. Also, I absolutely love teaching philosophy—it is so much fun! At Baylor, I’ve served as the president of the philosophy graduate student body, the graduate school association (GSA) representative, and as a bioethics bowl coach. Outside of philosophy, I love athletic competition. I wrestled for Princeton as an undergraduate, and I love to participate in other sports at Baylor, including tennis, racquetball, and soccer (but I’m not particularly good at any of them!). I live in Waco with my lovely wife, cuddly toddler, and energetic dog. To see my recent work or learn more about me, you can visit my website richevaphilosophy.com.
